Hello there, space traveler! If you've landed on this page, you're probably curious about the person behind the pixels. My name is Thane and I'm an astrophysics student and researcher based somewhere in the great state of Pennsylvania.

I've been fascinated by space since a young age when my dad used to turn on Star Trek Voyager for me at night. I remember being mesmerized by the stars and planets on the screen, and asking him a million questions about them. That curiosity never went away, and eventually led me to pursue a career in physics and astronomy.

During my undergrad years, I had the incredible opportunity to work on a research project studying the morphology of AGN jets. It was like peering into the heart of a cosmic engine, and I was hooked! Later in my undergrad years, I started to mentor students in the same research group, and it was so rewarding to share my passion for astrophysics with them and help them discover the same joy of scientific discovery that I had experienced. When I am not in class or doing research, I have a few hobbies that keep me busy. I'm an avid photographer. I have a Nikon Z fc that I use to capture the beauty of the world, and I'm always on the lookout for new places to photograph as I am an avid traveler. I also love playing D&D with my friends. There's something magical about creating a story together and exploring imaginary worlds. I'm currently running a campaign for a group of 6 brave adventurers, and it's been a blast so far!

// TRANSMISSION: FUN FACTS //
  • Have met multiple Physics Nobel Prize winners in person
  • Presented original research at multiple scientific conferences
  • Toured NASA Goddard Space Flight Center- saw things that should not be seen by civilians
  • Toured NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) - Yes, the one with all the rovers
  • Toured NASA Kennedy Space Center - stood where rockets leave the planet, and saw a spacex launch
  • Toured NASA Langley Research Center - the one from Hidden Figures
  • Toured Green Bank Observatory - world's largest steerable radio telescope
  • Toured Fermilab - particle physics, underground detectors, the whole deal
  • Just a few of the places that I took scientific / behind-the-scenes tours
  • Still somehow finds time to run a D&D campaign every week... well most weeks
// RESEARCH JOURNEY //
2022
PhysCon — Washington, D.C.
Presented original research at the Physics Congress, one of the largest national gatherings of undergraduate physics students.
Summer 2023
Began Exoplanet Research — first deep dive into observational astrophysics, studying planetary detection and characterization.
Late 2023
Pivoted to Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) research — studying the morphology and bending of extragalactic radio jets in VLASS. Still going strong.
2024
APS April Meeting — California
Presented AGN research at the American Physical Society meeting. Became a funded researcher over the summer to continue the VLASS triple sources project.
Early 2025
AAS 245th Meeting — Washington, D.C.
Presented at the American Astronomical Society meeting. The big one.
June 2025
Awarded a Research Fellowship — recognition for ongoing contributions to the AGN jet classification project.
Summer 2025
Research funded by NASA — continuing the VLASS triple radio source classification project toward publication in ApJS. ▶ CURRENTLY ACTIVE
